Drama and Music lessons have always been Cameron’s favourite subjects, especially while in LVS Oxford’s lower school, which he joined in Year 7 from a mainstream primary. Now in Year 10, he is preparing for exams and gaining invaluable work experience at the nearby Fairytale Farm, but he still gets to fulfil his passions and is busy writing plays and learning the guitar.

“I really enjoy this school,” says Cameron, who loves English and reading, with his favourite author being Sherlock Holmes. “I remember that I was very nervous at first, as I’d not been to a private school before, but I loved that we did lots of drama and had outdoor learning.

“There’s lots of space here and you can even go for walks in the forest. I’ve also been involved in a few school plays – I’ve been in leading roles too. I enjoy writing my own plays and I am currently creating my own film, which I’ve based on the story of the Hounds of the Baskervilles, a Sherlock Holmes’ story.”

“I remember that I was very nervous at first, as I’d not been to a private school before, but I loved that we did lots of drama and had outdoor learning.”

Cameron finds LVS Oxford’s rural setting particularly special. “There’s lots of nature all around here. So many trees and birds, it’s so cool. I can recognise all the types of birds,” adds Cameron, who also enjoys playing football, basketball and volley ball.

Being a student in the upper school comes with the opportunity to take on extra responsibilities: Cameron is a mentor to students in Years 7-9, as well as helping out in the library. “I like to tidy up the library and make sure the books are in good condition. I’m a big reader and I like being in the library, which we can also use as a working space.”

On Fridays, the school has an enrichment day, where students get to take part in extra-curricular clubs, including Sport, Drama and Art. “I’ve really enjoyed enrichment, particularly Stop Motion, which is where you use clay or action figures, take pictures of them in different poses and create films,” says Cameron.

“There’s so much space here and you can feel comfortable. The teachers are very supportive too – and the school dinners are really good. On Wednesdays we get roasts. My favourite is chicken with roast potatoes.”

Cameron also highly rates the “humungous” horticultural area and sensory garden: “it’s somewhere you can go and chill”.

“I’m very happy here and my parents are very grateful that I was given a place here. They’ve been very proud of me, especially with how well I’ve been doing in English and History.”
