Duke of Edinburgh Awards
What do we offer?
At LVS Oxford, we offer the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh award to any student in year 10. We offer all our students to complete their physical, skills and volunteering, as well as a qualifying expedition that lasts for two days and one night for the bronze award. The first three sections can be completed either on site, or off-site.
What makes us different?
At LVS Oxford we offer a tailored Duke of Edinburgh programme, in which participants can leave their full kit on camp during the day whilst we undertake the hikes. We also offer a variety of facilities for our students to complete their volunteering, physical and skills sections.
Participants can use activities on the Year 10 curriculum towards their volunteering section, including helping to run the school café, mentoring lower school students and taking part in work experience placements including Fairytale Farm, Chipping Norton. We also offer our participants timetabled sessions to complete each of these sections.
What are the outcomes so far?
In our first year of the Duke of Edinburgh, we have had eight participants successfully complete their Bronze expeditions. They have contributed to the improvement of the school environment with the installation of their mosaic art in the sensory garden. They are on target to achieve their Bronze awards in the Autumn.
They have all come away with a real sense of achievement, improved confidence, new experiences and friendships too. The award is a world-recognised award that continues to aid young adults and children with college, university and job applications.
