SEN Schools
What is a Special Educational Needs School?
An SEN school is a school that specialises in a student’s special educational needs. LVS Oxford SEN school in West Sussex specialises in autism and all the staff working here are specifically trained to work with students with this diagnosis.
Our special needs school is a non-maintained or independent school, whilst some SEN schools are maintained by the local authority. This means that LVS Oxford special needs school in West Sussex has more flexibility regarding their timetable, timings of the school day and the curriculum offered.
An SEN school will be better placed to assist with sensory issues amongst their students. As the schools are smaller than mainstream schools, they are better placed to understand the individual needs of the student.
What is an EHCP?
The majority of students in SEN schools will have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). LVS Oxford directly employ a range of therapists who work with the education teams to meet the outcomes detailed on a young person’s EHCP.
What is a co-morbid diagnosis?
Some students of the SEN secondary school will have a co-morbid diagnosis, which is where an individual has more than one diagnosis. In the case of autism, some examples are ASD/ADHD, ASD/anxiety, ASD/OCD. Sometimes, individuals may have more than two co-morbid diagnosed conditions.
